Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How quickly can I get my metallic cards printed?

A: Our minimum printing turnaround for metallic prints is 6 business days. This means that if your proof is approved by 8 pm EST, your order is guaranteed to go to print that evening and ship from our facility or be ready for pick up in 6 business days – or your order is free.

Q: What is printing turnaround time?

A: Printing turnaround refers to the time it takes for us to print your order and have it ready for shipping. This does not include delivery. Be sure to account for delivery times when you place your order. Your order will be ready for shipping after your preferred printing turnaround time, which you can specify in the order calculator.

Printing turnaround time does not include custom orders, mailing services, and/or ink jetting. It also does not cover shipping carrier delays in picking up orders for shipment or in delivering orders.

Q: What’s the difference between UV coating and spot UV?

A: Spot UV is applied to specific “spots” and parts of your design to highlight details. UV coating is applied to the entire print. Both produce a smooth and glossy result.

Q: Can I apply metallic ink to both sides?

A: Yes. With the exception of metallic stickers and labels, you can use metallic ink on both sides or choose between the front and the back.

Q: What are cut-to-size stickers?

A: Cut-to-size stickers are shipped in stacks and are already separated individually. This kind of sticker works great for events because they’re easy to hand out or include inside product packaging.

Q: Are metallic stickers suited for outdoor use?

A: Yes. While our high-gloss UV coated stickers prevent damage caused by moisture, they are not waterproof.

Q: Does metallic printing work on darker colors?

A: Yes, metallic printing works on any color. You can use multiple colors in the same design. However, the metallic colors may not be as visible and striking as it is in lighter colors.

Q: What’s the difference between metallic printing and foil stamping?

A: Foil stamping uses heat and pressure to layer foil on cardstock. Unlike metallic printing, foil has limited metallic colors to choose from. With metallic printing, we use traditional ink so you can create various color gradients and semitones.

Q: Why do you use glossy cardstock for metallic printing?

A: Since metallic ink is printed directly on the surface, it needs be applied on coated stock to keep its shine. Gold metallic ink printed on uncoated stock will not appear sparkly. We use glossy cardstock because this is tried and tested to undergo the metallic ink printing process with glowing results.

Q: What is a "trim", "safe zone," and "bleed"?

A: These are important terms to help you know which elements of your design are within printing guidelines.

“Trim” shows you the full, finished size of the printed product. When laying out your design, the images and copy placed in this area will be trimmed off.

The “safe zone” is inside the trim. This is where you should include important elements and information within your design to avoid them being trimmed off.

The “bleed” is the extra material that will be trimmed off. This area exists for you to extend a little of the unnecessary edges of your design, so you’re not left with white edges.

Q: What type of files can I submit for printing?

A: We accept PDF, JPEG, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Publisher files. You can set up your print file with our free downloadable templates.

Q: Is my artwork checked for errors before it is printed?

A: We offer two proofing options. If you select “Print Right Away,” your file will get a 30-point human review to ensure technical quality. We’ll contact you immediately for any problems that can’t be fixed.

Choosing “I want a PDF proof” ensures that you review the PDF file before we proceed to printing. Note that you’ll need to approve the file for us to proceed with production.
