8 Great Blogs for Copywriting Inspiration

May 14, 2013 by Bob Cargill

The life of a copywriter can be a lonely one. After all, you are completely on your own when it comes to putting words on that blank computer screen in front of you. There isn’t anyone who’s going to do the typing for you. The responsibility for taking that one big idea and running with it lies solely on you.

But that’s not to say you can’t find some good assistance online that will make you feel not so alone in your creative endeavors. While there is always Google and Wikipedia, both of which I visit frequently, here is a list of 8 great blogs for copywriters, each and every one of which will provide you with the inspiration, support and camaraderie you need to be the very best at your craft.

1. Copyblogger | https://www.copyblogger.com | This blog has been teaching its readers how to create “killer online content” since January 2006. Founded by Brian Clark as a “simple, one-man blog,” today Copyblogger publishes a handful of articles each week – some written by Brian, many written by others – about online content marketing.
2. Seth Godin | https://sethgodin.typepad.com/ | Author of over 10 must-read books on marketing – including Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable and Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us – Seth is a brilliant, one-of-a-kind new marketing guru who happens to write one of the most popular blogs in the world. Read it as much for Seth’s words of wisdom as for the understated and succinct Hemingwayesque style in which he writes.
3. Bob Bly | https://bly.com/new/index.html | A prolific copywriter and author of more than 70 books, Bob’s blog is a no-nonsense, no-holds-barred commentary on everything he believes is right – and wrong – about not just copywriting, but the state of marketing today. You’ll learn a lot by reading it. I do.
4. Men with Pens | https://menwithpens.ca/blog/ | Billed as “one of the web’s most popular blogs for copywriters, small business owners, freelancers and entrepreneurs,” Men with Pens is actually owned by a woman who goes by the pen name, James Chartrand. How awesome is that?
5. Copywriting.com | https://www.copywriting.com/blog/ | The “brain-child” of copywriter and Internet marketer, Miguel Alvarezy Mena Brito, Copywriting.com contains a wealth of knowledge and information meant for anyone who wants to learn more about copywriting. Recent posts included “5 Grammar rules it’s okay to break,” “Copywriting for Twitter” and “Top 10 favorite copywriting books.”
6. Content Marketing Institute | https://contentmarketinginstitute.com/blog/ | Geared toward today’s modern marketers, not just copywriters, this blog publishes daily posts written by dozens of experts from all over the world on the latest trends and developments in content marketing. Practical, insightful, educational, informational … that’s the Content Marketing Institute blog.
7. ABC Copywriting | https://www.abccopywriting.com/blog | For some excellent deep dives into what it takes to succeed as a copywriter today, you’ll want to take a good look at the ABC Copywriting blog, written by Tom Albrighton. It’s a relatively new blog on the scene, but a really good read. Check it out.
8. The Direct Response Coach | http://www.mccarthyandking.com/ | A past president of the New England Direct Marketing Association, Bob McCarthy is much more than just a talented copywriter. He’s a consultant, creative director, project manager, list researcher and direct marketing instructor. Read his blog and you’ll get an education on everything from direct mail to email, inbound to outbound marketing, testing, lead generation and much more.

About the Author: Bob Cargill is a professional Copywriter, Creative Director and Social Media Consultant who runs Cargill Creative and a popular blog.
