Making Support Visible: How Sista Midwife Uses Print to Reach Families in Pregnancy and Loss

Every family deserves access to information and care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

During Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, that becomes even more important. Families grieving a loss need care and community at the very moment they are least able to look for them. For organizations working to educate families and advocate for better outcomes, getting the right information in front of the people who need it can make a meaningful difference.

That mission sits at the heart of Sista Midwife Productions, a maternal health consulting agency founded by Nicole Deggins, a certified nurse midwife, birth advocate, Black doula trainer, and community educator. Through print, her team puts guidance directly in the hands of families, from those preparing for a new arrival to those grieving a loss.

Her work centers on one clear goal: “To Make Birth Better.”

Building a Stronger Birth Community

Based in New Orleans, Sista Midwife Productions equips and educates people who shape maternal health.

According to Nicole,

“We provide strategic consulting, coaching, and customized training for organizations and individuals who want to start, shift, or grow their impact in the maternal health space.”
Sista Midwife Productions’ vision is to create a paradigm shift in the ways individuals and communities think about pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Over the years, the organization has become a leading voice in birth advocacy and education, helping connect families with providers who understand their unique experiences and needs.

“We have trained nearly 1,000 doulas across the country with our signature Sista Midwife Birth Sister Doula Training. We have the largest and the oldest black Doula and black Midwife directories online. Collectively, they help connect black families to Black providers”, she adds.
But directories only help families who know they exist.

The Importance of Being Seen

For an organization dedicated to connecting families with resources, visibility matters.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month highlights the value of support, education, and compassionate care during these challenging moments.

Midwives and doulas often play an important role in helping families navigate pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, and, when needed, grief and loss. Sista Midwife's work centers on ensuring families know these resources exist and know where to find them. Yet Nicole says awareness remains a challenge.

"While our directory has been around since 2012 there are still many people who do not know about it."
That's where print comes in.

At conferences, trainings, community events, and professional gatherings, Sista Midwife uses Tension Fabric Stands from 48HourPrint to increase visibility and awareness of its directories and educational resources.

Watch the reel

The banner helps the organization present its message clearly and consistently wherever it goes, making its services more visible to families seeking support and birth workers looking to connect with the community. Beyond branding and promotions, it also helps Nicole communicate the impact of birth professionals.

“It helps me spread the message not only about the directory but also the value of midwives and doulas who can help families during times of pregnancy and infant loss.”

A Fast and Reliable Print Partner

Timing is everything when preparing for an important event. Nicole credits 48HourPrint's customer service team with helping ensure her banner arrived when she needed it most.

“I placed my order later than I'd wanted, but the customer service was stellar and allowed me to get the banner printed and shipped to my destination in time to unveil it at a conference I was attending within the week.”
Her experience reinforced the value of working with a reliable print partner: quick answers, clear communication, and a quality-printed banner that arrived on time, ready to use.

“Our banner allows us to display information about the directory, what it is, how to join, and how to find a listed provider. It’s visually appealing and helps us easily showcase our directories when I am exhibiting at events.”

Making Birth Better, One Connection at a Time

This Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, one truth stands out: support helps most when people know where to find it.

That truth shapes the work of Sista Midwife. Through training, education, advocacy, and community-building, the organization continues to grow the number of Black midwives, doulas, and birth advocates while pushing for more equitable births.

From conferences to training to community events, their custom banner from 48HourPrint helps make those resources more visible, ensuring more families and birth workers can connect with the education, guidance, and support they need.

For a mission built on making birth better, every one of those connections counts.
