Preserving the environment by using green printing practices and recycled paper is a major initiative of 48HourPrint.com. We offer recycled paper stocks for all of our print products (a few exceptions apply, please see below). We are offering recycled stock at no additional cost to you. It’s brighter and more uniform in appearance than any stock we’ve offered before. You get great printing results, while doing something good for the environment.
Sustainability Seal of Approval
A symbol of our commitment to being a leader in sustainable printing is our Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. FSC is an independent organization that promotes responsible management of the world's forests. Products with the FSC label – such as those used by 48HourPrint.com – are independently certified as being from forests that are managed to meet the "social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations."
Environmentally Responsible Printing Practices
The manufacturing processes that we use for all of our printing products, including recycled paper, are focused on protecting the environment:
- No chlorine or bleach is used to whiten our paper.
- Soy-based inks have few traces of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and create vibrant print images.
- All printing plates we use are non-process plates which use no chemicals for development or finishing. These non-process plates eliminate the need for installation, management or maintenance of the traditional wet-chemical plate processing systems, allowing the plate making process to be more efficient and environmentally friendly.
- Our water-based aqueous coatings, Gloss and Matte, are 100% biodegradable, and are our recommended finish.
- All waste paper and printing plates are recycled.
- With all of our printing done on Komori LS 640 presses, considered to be the world’s most efficient printing press, we decrease make-ready time by half and reduce waste, chemicals and energy consumption.
- Products are boxed in recycled cardboard or recycled boxes, and packaged with biodegradable packaging materials.
- Products are printed and shipped from one of our two facilities (Cleveland or Phoenix) that is closest to the delivery area to save on fuel use.

Corporate Commitment to Environment Issues
In addition to following green printing practices, 48HourPrint.com encourages environmentally friendly practices throughout our organization:
- Recycling containers are positioned at every desk.
- Recycling stations are in each common area for bottles, cans and paper.
- Paperless meetings are encouraged, with laptops and Internet connectivity used in training and conference rooms.
- E-faxes eliminate paper waste and toner cartridges.
- Computers and monitors are shut off at the end of the work day.
- 48HourPrint.com "Green" coffee mugs and drinking glasses are provided to employees to eliminate plastic and Styrofoam.
- Many employees bicycle or take mass transit (company reimbursed) to work.
